Subscriptions to Online Databases and Access to e-Leaming Resources

The University Library of UP Diliman has subscribed to eight (8) multi-disciplinary and 24 highly specialized online databases covering various disciplines.

Five (5) out of 32 online databases are accessible in all Constituent Units of UP System, namely:

1. Academic OneFile
2. Gale Virtual Reference Library (GVRL)
3. ProQuest Central
4. ScienceDirect
5. Scopus

These databases may be accessed within UP System using any computer connected to its network or outside the campus using user login and password.

Below are the steps on how to access online data bases:

1. Visit the University Library web site of UP Diliman at http://www.mainlib.upd.edu.ph.

2. Click the "Online Subscriptions" link under the "Electronic Resources" menu on the left side of the page. An alphabetical list of online databases will appear on screen.

3. Select the online database you wish to search and click the link.

4. If you are accessing it remotely, click the remote access link and enter the user login and password.

5. Start searching using the basic search, advanced search or browse by publication title.

You may also access these online databases from the library web sites of the Constituent Units. For instance, http://library.uplb.edu.ph for UP Los Baños Main library; http://mainlibrary.upm.edu.ph/ for UP Manila University Library; and so on.

Please be informed that the remote access account which is limited to bona fide members of the University is for your own use only. Do not share this account with non-UP members. Use of digital contents should be restricted to academic research and teaching purposes only.

We enjoin faculty members through the Deans and Chairs of the different department in the colleges/units of the Universrty to include in their syllabi relevant and scholarly electronic resources contained in these online databases. It is further recommended that the students be encouraged to consult these databases for their reading assignments, term reports, critiques, literature review for theses/dissertations and other research works.

To maximize use of the data bases, we further enjoin the faculty members to coordinate with the University library in their respective campus for an orientation and hands-on training on the use of online databases together with their students.
