Recruitment Announcement for HIV Faculty-Researchers

The University of the Philippines Manila AIDS Study Group and Brown University in Providence, RI are looking for possible junior faculty members who may be interested in conducting HIV-related researches in the Philippines. We are looking for 3 faculty members who are –

1. Permanent/ tenured with UP Manila;
2. Junior faculty (Assistant Professor level);
3. Conducted multidisciplinary research work in any disease-centered topics;
4. Willing to be involved with a multidisciplinary research team;
5. Willing to develop and monitor HIV research protocol; and,
6. Able to undertake HIV training in Brown University for 3 months with stipend and round-trip ticket (Mnl-Pvd-Mnl), as Fogarty Fellow.

2009 Course on Principles of AIDS and STI today at CAS

The College of Arts and Sciences will host the 2009 Course on Principles of AIDS and STI at the Little Theater today and tomorrow.

The course is free for participants which include medical doctors and nurses from various hospitals in the Metro Manila area.

The course is offered by the UP Manila NIH AIDS Study Group in cooperation with the Fogarty International Program - National Institutes of Health; Brown University; and Tufts University - Center for AIDS Research.

2009 Course on Principles of HIV and STI

The College of Arts and Sciences, the Manila Studies Program and the UP Manila - National Institutes of Health (NIH) AIDS Study Group will hold the 2009 Course on Principles of AIDS and STI on August 6 and 7, 2009 at the College Little Theater.

Learning Objectives:

  • Discuss the background and significance of the AIDS epidemic, including geographic patterns of transmission.
  • Discuss the characteristics of HIV disease.
  • Describe the transmission of HIV infection, including risk behaviors and routes of contagion.
  • Discuss the natural history and classification of HIV infection.
  • Describe the treatments available in the care of patients with HIV, including antiretroviral regimens.
  • Summarize AIDS prevention efforts, such as vaccine research and development.
Departments are invited to send one participant each to the Course. Please give the name to the Office of the Dean.
