MSP Research Dissemination Forum: Delimitation of Begonia L. sections Diploclinium and Baryandra (Begoniaceae) in the Philippines

The Manila Studies Program and the Department of Biology of the College of Arts and Sciences will be conducting a Research Dissemination Forum on August 23, 2012, 9AM-10:30AM at the CAS Little Theater.  The forum will be discussing the Delimitation of Begonia L. sections Diploclinium and Baryandra (Begoniaceae) in the Philippines, a research of Prof. Rosario R. Rubite.  This is an activity spearheaded by the Dean's office to promote and strengthen the research culture among faculty and students of the college.

MSP: Seminar-Workshop on Trans-disciplinary Collaborative Research Workshop

Manila Studies Program - College of Arts and Science will hold

Seminar-Workshop on Trans-disciplinary Collaborative Research

Date and Time: September 21-23, 2011, 8 AM to 5 PM
Venue:  CAS Alumni Room

The seminar-workshop aims to build a culture of research among UP Manila faculty and generate more research output from the activity.  Faculty members from different colleges especially those who are involved in research are encouraged to attend.

Participants are requested to prepare a brief research proposal as basis/starting content for the fast-paced workshop.

MSP Research Seminar Series: Positivism and the Scientific Method

The Manila Studies Program is conducting an ongoing series of seminars on research and publication. The seminars aim to enhance the knowledge and capabilities of CAS faculty especially those who are thesis advisers through thorough discussion of one research topic each session.

Other research topics for the month of August shall be as follows:

August 24, 2011 - Research Paradigm 1: Positivism and the Scientific Method
August 31, 2011 - Research Paradigm 2: Constructivism and Interpretive research

Both topics will be discussed by Dr. Leonardo Estacio Jr, chairman of the Department of Behavioral Sciences. The seminars will be held at the UP CAS Alumni Room, 10:00am-11:30am.

MSP Seminar Series: Developing the research proposal and Funding Opportunities for Research

The Manila Studies Program is inviting all CAS Faculty and thesis students to attend the series of seminars and workshops on research and publication which will start on August 2011 until March of 2012. The first of the series of topics, “Developing the research proposal and Funding Opportunities for Research,” will be discussed by Prof. Laufred Hernandez on August 17, 2011 10:00-12:00nn at the CAS Alumni Room. Short Course on Applied Health Research

The Manila Studies Program, in partnership with the Office of the Dean and the support of the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development, DOST, is holding another round its Short Course on Applied Health Research on August 19-21, 2009 at RH 313.

The course is free for one faculty member from each department in CAS, and one faculty member from each of the other Colleges in UP Manila. Please contact the Manila Studies Program (5225208 loc 108) or the Office of the Dean if you wish to participate in this course.

Course Objectives:
  • To sensitize the participants of the value of applied health research, its characteristics, strengths and transdisciplinary, gender /culture-sensitive and ethical research approaches;
  • To equip participants with knowledge and skills in using health social science, ethical, and gender/culture sensitive approaches in data collection and data analysis; and
  • To equip participants with the knowledge and skills in conducting baseline research, monitoring and evaluation and outcome research as applied in policymaking and program development;
