The Chancellor has met all the colleges for a response to the calamity. It has been agreed upon that a Unified Fund Drive with a target of ONE MILLION PESOS be raised for badly affected constituents.
As one of the colleges of the University, we have a target of ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND PESOS as contribution to the unified fund.
In this line, I would like to encourage all faculty members and administrative staff to donate whatever amount they could. Faculty members and student organizations may also initiate fund-raising projects, proceeds of which maybe forwarded to the said fund.
Ms Juvy Macapagal, CAS Student Council Chairperson will be coordinating the student activities. Professor Gina Salazar will coordinate faculty while Dr, Jocelyn del Mundo will coordinate faculty and administrative efforts, respectively.
The time frame for the cash donation drive is September 30 to October 14, 2009. Attached is the appeal for cash donations from the Office of the Chancellor.
Should you have other questions, you may contact our office. Thank you very much.

UP Manila Relief Operations
(From the UPM-PGH-USC-LCC Meeting, Monday, September 28, 2009, 9am)
Dear UP Manila ,
1. In GENERAL: The UP Manila Relief Efforts will be decentralized in the level of collection and repacking to make things more efficient. Each college administration and college student council will set up collection booths in the lobbies of each college. Each college is also in-charge of mobilizing its students for repacking, etc. (College chairs, please coordinate with your deans ASAP.)
The UPM Administration and USC, on the other hand, will be focused on transporting and distributing the donations to the victim communities.
The UP Manila Relief Operations will benefit (as of today) Pasay City – since we have a community-based health program in the entire city. The UPM administration is still doing visits to other communities outside NCR as well.
2. To COLLEGE CHAIRS: Once done with repacking, please contact any of the hotlines immediately. The UP-PGH central team will send transport to pick up the repacked donations.
PGH Nurses Station (24 hours) – 536-4625
Office of the Vice Chancellor for Administration – 526-6110
Pahinungod – 526-5950/51
3. To UPM STUDENTS, FACULTY, STAFF: Please bring your donations to your respective college LOBBIES. Your college student council will set up a booth there where you can turn over donations. In case your own college is closed, you can actually bring your donations to any of the colleges. Still, better to coordinate with your college student council. Exception: College of Medicine – Not in the lobby, but in MSU 2/F in front of Med Library. College of Medicine booth open 24 hours.
To ALL (even non-UPM): You can also bring your donations to the PGH Nursing Service Office. Also open 24 hours.
WHAT TO DONATE:
(From UPM and Red Cross recommendations)
Food items: Sacks of rice, bread, noodles (preferably cup noodles), canned goods (sardines, corned beef, etc), sugar, iodized salt, cooking oil, monggo beans and potable water (bottled or large containers), other ready-to-cook/no-cook/easy-to-prepare food
Medicines: Paracetamol, antibiotics, analgesic, oral rehydration salts, multivitamins and medications to treat diarrheal diseases
Non-food items: Clothes (especially for children), slippers, disposable plates, spoon, fork, bath soaps, alcohol, face towels, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, plastic mats, blankets, mosquito nets, jerry cans, water containers, water purification tablets, babies needs, plastic sheetings, and laundry soap
4. For MONETARY DONATIONS – As of now, UPM doesn’t have a bank account for monetary donations, so the only authorized people to receive them are your a) College Council Chair or b) Office of the Dean. This will be used to buy the stuff needed by the communities. At present, the UPCM team is doing needs assessment in Pasay City , where UPM has a community-based health program. The results of the assessment will guide us on how to use the monetary donations.
For MEDICINE DONATIONS – please give to the college student council, which will relay it to Pahinungod. Pahinungod will be in-charge of distributing the medicines to needy communities equitably. (Again, Red Cross recommendations: Medicines: Paracetamol, antibiotics, analgesic, oral rehydration salts, multivitamins and medications to treat diarrheal diseases)
5. To UPM STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS: To organizations interested in helping make the collections and repacking more efficient, please approach your college student council (if you’re a college-based org) or the USC (if univ-based).
6. WE NEED VOLUNTEERS FOR COLLECTION AND REPACKING! We need student volunteers who can help collect, repack, label, etc. Please enlist to your respective College Councils ASAP. Your chairpersons will advise you when and where to gather.
7. WE ALSO NEED VOLUNTEERS FOR MED MISSION ! Tentative date of medical mission to Pasay is on Wednesday, September 30, 2009. More med missions to farther communities in and out of NCR to be later announced. Please enlist to your respective College Councils. Volunteers will most likely be excused from classes. (For Medicine, MSC will coordinate with you, especially LU 5 and 6 who will be the chief force for the missions.)
8. All College Chairs, Blockheads, Class Presidents, Org Presidents: Please check on all your members/constituents. Get information regarding their whereabouts. We fervently pray that every member of the UPM family is safe. If you get any pertinent information, please update the USC immediately. The USC and UPM administration would like to be updated regarding the status of our students.
9. Dear Chairs, please secure a list of ALL volunteers from your respective colleges starting today. Thanks.
10. No classes on Tuesday, so let’s all help in this cause.
11. For more questions, please contact me at 09186469079 or your college chairperson.
Thank you for your cooperation and volunteerism.
Time to truly SERVE THE PEOPLE.
Be safe!
